Thinking of purchasing, some questions:

Postby getter77 » Sat Dec 19, 2009 3:50 pm

-Is there any form of DRM or other things to complicate installation and such? I will finally have a new PC in a few weeks, but will likely first play the game on this old one. How does one get the full version/subsequent patches---some manner of email through the processing?

-What kind of plans are there for additions/improvements to the game in the short/longterm future?

-How do I get the demo to work? It keeps wanting to give me a demo.exe HTML file that I can't do anything with...I would think it is meant to be a demo.exe application file.

Hello,
I am glad you are thinking of buying the game. I am sorry if my respond is a bit late.

- There is no DRM.
Edit: The purchase process is being done online via Plimus, you will get an email with a download link to the full version after the purchase.
Patching will be available for download from this website, you will need to have the full version for the patch to work, but they will be avialable in public.
- The short term plans are mostly improving bugs and problems via feedback from players. The long term, I am not sure about, but it is possible I will add more levels and/or add multiplayer. But I don't promise it will happen.
- I am not sure what is the problem you are describing. The file you are suppose to download from this website is LabyDemoSetup_V1P00B1.exe.
If you downloaded this file, you should run it with administrator priviliges. After installing the file, there should be a folder and inside a short cut called Laby on your start menu.
If you did all this, and you run the game and you get an error dialoug, it means there is a problem. I need you to tell me what is the error message to understand what is the problem. However, the most common problem is a compatability problem with the graphics card.

What is the name of the file you downloaded from this website?

I'm on Win XP so there should be no administrator issues...using Firefox.

When I download the file, the name is the same as on this page:

http://www.pompipompi.net/downloads/cat ... games.html

However, despite the file being a good size and ending in .exe, it makes the type an HTML file. So when I try to click it, it just opens a firefox window and tries to activate it which doesn't work.

I'm now trying it in Internet Explorer to see if that makes a difference. It'll take awhile, but I'll post back if it works better.

All other questions sound good!

It could be that your windows explorer is hiding the file extension, and that the file is saved like this LabyDemoSetup_V1P00B1.exe.html
However, I have no idea why it would do that. In that case you could simpley rename. It is also possible that the word Setup makes windows XP behave funny. Maybe renaming it to test.exe will fix this.

It would not allow me to rename "enough" of it when downloaded using Firefox...the .html part visible in the downloader dialog would not be present offline---just the .exe.

At any rate, the file downloaded and executed correctly when I used Internet Explorer instead. The Introduction and Menu screens performed well, but once I got ingame everything was so incredibly slow and unresposive as to make it unplayable. Restarting it and disabling the options given in the graphics menu didn't really help to any significant degree. I would not be surprised if my old PC here is the culprit(5-6 year old Dell), as I had a similar issue(well, much worse I suppose) with another recent Indie Roguelike you might have played, Mines of Morgoth....either that or Microsoft/.NET stuff hates me.

I'll give the game another shot in some weeks once I have a modern machine same as Mines of Morogoth. :fingers crossed for said machine and everything working well with it:

Best of luck meanwhile as I hope the playerbase grows in the near future and the game continues to evolve. Perhaps in the future I might even be able to help out more directly with future game projects as such serves as my area of activity.

Well, at least it works now. :)
But yea, I would think anything with a graphics card bellow a gefroce 8600 will not be fast enough for this game. So it is very possible that your 5 years old does not have a graphics card fast enough for this game. Yea, it's pretty demanding. I could add to my todo list a fallback with support for lower spec computers.
